Brian Flores is going with the “burn it to the ground” approach when it comes to his lawsuit against the NFL, teams, and individuals.
The former Miami Dolphins coach had back-to-back winning seasons but the 9-8 mark and finishing a game out of the playoffs was not good enough for owner Stephen Ross, who fired Flores after the 2021 season.
The main point of Flores’ lawsuit is based on racist hiring practices in the league.
Now, many around the NFL have known this to be an issue for some time. Tony Dungy wrote about it a year ago, although nobody seemed to care.
But the biggest bombshell was Flores’ accusation that Ross was asking Flores to lose games with $100,000 for every loss. There may even be a witness.
Hue Jackson said he was getting a similar offer when coaching in Cleveland.
While we can’t be surprised tanking occurs to get a high draft pick, we can be disgusted that owners would be paying bonus money to coaches to lose and then fire them for not winning enough games.
A full-scale investigation now must take place if the league wants to keep any credibility for the integrity of its games.
