Saskatchewan won’t have a team in the playoffs at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker, who’s wearing the province’s colours at the Canadian women’s curling championship in Thunder Bay, Ont., lost her final round-robin game Thursday to fall out of playoff contention.
Barker lost 10-2 to the Wild Card #3 entry skipped by Emma Miskew in the afternoon draw and finished with a 4-4 record.
The Regina-based Wild Card #2 foursome skipped by Chelsea Carey also won’t be advancing.
Carey beat New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford 10-3 in Thursday’s afternoon draw and also completed round-robin play at 4-4.
The top three teams in each pool after the round-robin make the playoffs.
The Wild Card #1 team skipped by Tracy Fleury topped Pool A with a 7-1 record, with Crawford second at 6-2. Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville went 5-3 in the round-robin to grab the final transfer spot.
Defending champion Kerri Einarson finished with an 8-0 record in Pool B and qualified for the playoffs. Nova Scotia’s Christina Black, Manitoba’s Mackenzie Zacharias and Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories finished at 5-3.
Galusha and Zacharias are to meet in a tiebreaker Friday morning, with the rest of the playoff round to follow. The final is slated for Sunday.
