Regina’s Mitch Picton is staying home.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday they had signed Picton and defensive back Godfrey Onyeka to contract extensions. Both players could have become CFL free agents Feb. 8.
Saskatchewan went into the off-season with 50 potential free agents. So far, 20 players have been re-signed and two have been released, leaving 28 players unsigned.
Picton, 26, played in 10 regular-season games with the Roughriders last season, catching 25 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown.
The former University of Regina Rams star was selected by the Roughriders in the fifth round (37th overall) of the 2017 CFL draft and he made his CFL debut in 2019.
At the U of R, he made 170 receptions for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns in 38 games.
Onyeka, 27, appeared in nine regular-season games for the Roughriders in 2021. He made 24 defensive tackles and seven special-teams stops.
Onyeka initially was selected by Edmonton in the second round (10th overall) of the 2018 CFL draft out of Wilfrid Laurier University. He was a three-time U Sports first-team All-Canadian and a three-time OUA first-team all-star while with the Golden Hawks.
