As CFL teams continue to pick away at signing their pending free agents, it’s incredible to see how much talent still remains out there.
Top receivers like Bryan Burnham, Duke Williams and Greg Ellingson could become available in February, but there are so many others receivers out there. A number of Canadian offensive linemen could hit the market — and some pretty good ones, too.
Defensively, there are so many great players who have yet to be locked up with 2 1/2 weeks left before they hit the open market. The Saskatchewan Roughriders alone have Micah Johnson, Loucheiz Purifoy, Ed Gainey, Deon Lacey, Larry Dean and Mike Edem unsigned as of Wednesday.
We know more news is coming from all nine teams, but it continues to appear that free-agent day on Feb. 8 is going to be an extremely important day for teams trying to build Grey Cup champions.
However, the one-year contracts continue to be the norm. It’s a big issue and maybe the biggest issue that needs to be addressed this off-season in the CFL.
