The University of Saskatchewan Huskies football program had three of its players crack the latest round of the top-20 prospect rankings ahead of the 2022 CFL draft.
The CFL Scouting Bureau published the second edition of the top-20 prospects eligible for the 2022 CFL draft on Thursday. Huskies Noah Zerr, Adam Machart and Nathan Cherry all made the list.
Zerr, a Langenburg product who’s listed at 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds on the Huskies’ website, landed at No. 10 on the list after completing his fourth year of eligibility along the offensive line.
Machart was a 2019 Hec Crighton Trophy finalist before helping his 2021 team qualify for its first Vanier Cup appearance since 2006. The Huskies lost 27-21 to the Western Mustangs in the 2021 U Sports final.
The Saskatoon product finished the season with 925 yards and seven touchdowns on 128 carries, and added another 400 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver. Machart was listed at No. 13 on Thursday’s list.
Cherry’s first appearance on the prospects list placed him at No. 16. The Saskatoon-born defensive lineman tied for the lead among all Huskies defenders with six sacks in 2021. He also had eight tackles for loss along the interior of the defensive line.
Yorkton’s Peter Kozushka, an offensive lineman with the Alberta Golden Bears, appeared at No. 11 in the winter rankings.
The CFL Scouting Bureau, consisting of player personnel directors and general managers from the league’s nine clubs as well as scouts, releases the prospect rankings list in the fall, winter and spring each year.
Jesse Luketa, a native of Ottawa who plays his college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big 10, was atop the rankings.
Luketa finished the season with 53 tackles (30 solo and 23 assisted), four tackles for a loss, and an interception which he returned for a touchdown.
His most impressive display came in the Outback Bowl against Arkansas, when he racked up nine tackles. Teams south of the border will get a chance to thoroughly scout him after Luketa received an invitation to the NFL combine in March.
