Man facing fraud charges after allegedly stealing more than $1M of goods from employer

Saskatoon police wrapped up a more than three-year investigation Tuesday when a man wanted on fraud charges turned himself in after allegedly stealing more than $1 million in merchandise from his employer.

The Saskatoon Police Service economic crime unit charged a 45-year-old man in connection to a fraud that took place between September 2013 and June 2018.

Police were given a tip from a business in the 2900 block of Idylwyld Drive North in June of that year that an employee allegedly was stealing merchandise and selling it for personal profit. Police say more than $1.1. million worth of merchandise was stolen over the nearly five-year span.

The man turned himself in Tuesday. He is charged with fraud and theft over $5,000.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 9.
