The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Tuesday they have signed a pair of their standout defenders.
The CFL team signed cornerback Nick Marshall and Canadian linebacker Micah Teitz to contract extensions. Both players could have become free agents in February.
Saskatchewan now has extended the contracts of six of the 50 players whose deals were to expire in February.
Marshall, who was named a 2021 West Division all-star, played in every game for Saskatchewan in 2021. The Auburn product made 30 defensive tackles and tied teammate Ed Gainey with a team-high three interceptions. Marshall returned one of those for a touchdown.
Marshall will be entering his fourth CFL season with the Riders after signing with the team in 2018.
In his career, Marshall has recorded 11 interceptions and four defensive touchdowns.
Teitz flourished after he was given the chance to start following the departure of Cam Judge prior to the 2021 season.
The former University of Calgary Dino played in 13 games for the Riders last season, recording a team-leading 64 tackles while adding three sacks. He was named the Riders’ nominee for the CFL award as most outstanding Canadian.
Teitz was taken by the Riders in the second round (14th overall) in the 2018 CFL draft. Prior to joining the Riders, he played with his hometown Dinos for four seasons and won back-to-back Hardy Cups in 2016 and ’17.
