Saskatoon police are adding additional sexual assault charges to a previous case after urging victims to come forward in September.
Cecil Wolfe, 60, was charged with sexual assault on May 25 after police received a report on April 26 about a woman who had been sexually assaulted, according to a media release.
When the charge was announced on Sept. 21, police believed there could be other victims, and urged anyone with information to come forward.
That led to an additional six charges and an arrest last Wednesday after a collaboration between the Saskatoon RCMP’s General Investigation Section and the Saskatoon Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit. One charge is in Saskatoon police jurisdiction and the remaining five were filed by the RCMP in Loon Lake and Muskeg Lake Cree Nation.
Victims reported Wolfe was working under the “pretext of being a traditional healer or medicine man when they encountered him,” according to a media release issued Tuesday.
Investigators believe there may be more victims from over the past 20 years in Loon Lake, Blaine Lake, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatoon and surrounding areas.
The investigation remains active and victims are encouraged to contact their nearest RCMP detachment or police service if they have information to share.
Wolfe was released on a court undertaking after his arrest on Wednesday. He’s tp appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 17.
