Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Craig Dickenson and general manager Jeremy O’Day are about to launch into days of assessing the good, bad and ugly of the Roughriders’ 2021 season.
If there are glaring holes in this roster, you point first to the priorities laid out by Dickenson on garbage bag day, the things he believes are crucial to success in the CFL: Offensive and defensive line.
There is no question the Riders this off-season are going to jump into free agency to land an offensive lineman or two to improve the play up front. While they have great prospects in Logan Ferland and Mattland Riley, the Riders need to ensure that quarterback Cody Fajardo and whoever is running the ball have the time and the space to succeed.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers showed the Riders again that they’ll have problems hanging with Winnipeg until they can push back along the offensive and defensive lines.
There is plenty of nitpicking and tinkering to be done on this roster. Dickenson and O’Day already know where to start laying a foundation for a chance at a 2022 Grey Cup at home, and it starts in the trenches.
