If the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to do anything in the CFL playoffs, Cody Fajardo needs to find the 2013 Darian Durant magic.
Durant was almost perfect in the 2013 playoffs as he single-handedly won the West Division semifinal on home turf.
Durant took over in the second half of the game and ran several times for big chunks of yards to put the B.C. Lions on their heels.
I’m looking at Fajardo to find a way to use his natural instincts at quarterback to take over and do similar things against the Calgary Stampeders on Sunday.
If Fajardo is going to stay in the pocket for most of the game, it might be a long one. If the Riders can get Fajardo moving and extending the play, the odds of the coverage breaking down increases.
While the Riders’ defence should be expected to hold the Stampeders to around 20 points because it’s that good, the Riders’ offence has had trouble getting more than 20 against good teams.
Enter the need for Fajardo to be the player he was in 2019, when he was the team’s best offensive threat. If he can’t find the sprinkle of Jesus, it’ll be a one-and-done playoff again for the Green and White.
