A 35-year-old man has been charged with sexual exploitation in connection with a historical sexual assault.
In a media release Thursday, police said they received a report in December of 2019 of sexual assault. The release didn’t say when the incidents allegedly occurred.
One of the complaints was from a woman who was 16 years old at the time of the offence.
Officers investigated and now have arrested a 35-year-old man. Police say the victim and the accused know each other through their affiliation with a Saskatoon faith-based organization.
The man was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation while being in a position of trust or authority. According to police, sexual abuse and exploitation occurs “when a child has been or is likely to be exposed to harmful interaction for a sexual purpose by a parent, caretaker, or any person in a position of trust or authority over the young person.”
The man made his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Wednesday.
