A story came out of California this week of a high school football team who beat another 106-0.
The score was 59-0 after the first quarter.
The opposing coach asked to have the clock not stop for the rest of the game as a form of mercy rule. The coach of the winning side said no.
The winners also kept their starting quarterback, a recruit of the University of California, Los Angeles, in the game.
And to cap off this beautiful display of leadership, the coach even went for two at the end of the game when his team was ahead 104-0.
Now, here’s the question. What did this coach teach his players? Never quit? Nope. Show no mercy? Nope.
He taught these kids to show zero respect for their opponent. Inglewood High School offered an apology. So too did the coach.
There is no lesson in that response either. If Inglewood High truly showed remorse, the head coach would be done for the season, if not fired outright.
