Jamie Nye: A four-down CFL? Never! Right?

I could not believe how many of our listeners actually were on board with going to four downs in the CFL.

We asked the question after a few listeners brought it up on Monday’s show and gauged the audience on Tuesday. By no means was it the majority but five years ago, this wouldn’t have been a discussion.

It would have been a resounding and emphatic ‘NO’ by 99 per cent of those polled.

The one thing that could be happening is more and more people are just as entertained by the NFL as they are the CFL so they don’t see a problem with the four-down game.

Now, let’s be clear, I am NOT one of those who would support a change. While I’d like to see more offence, I believe three to four downs would make the CFL a more ground-and-pound game and less the aerial assault we see in the NFL and what we’ve fallen in love with in the CFL.

Three-down football is the CFL and CFL is three-down football and should never change. But as I’m learning as years go by, never say never.
