With a win this weekend, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be facing their toughest challenge of the 2021 season.
And the reason is they’re too damn good.
The 9-1 Bombers can clinch the CFL’s West Division crown with a victory at home over the B.C. Lions on Saturday.
That means that nothing they do in the final four weeks of the season matters.
They’ll have three games and not have a truly meaningful game until Dec. 5 when they host the West final.
That’s 43 days for the Bombers to continue to stay engaged, to try and keep their level of play high and not get complacent. When you get complacent, you start to allow those little things like bad habits to creep into your game.
Now, would you rather be the Bombers than anyone else in the CFL? Of course.
But head coach Mike O’Shea will have a challenge many coaches would love to have, which is deciding which player to rest when and for how many games and how to show up in the West final ready to play against teams who will be scratching and clawing their way to the post-season.
