A Saskatoon school in the Massey Place neighbourhood was placed in lockdown Friday after a shooting occurred nearby.
In a media release, the Saskatoon Police Service said officers responded at about 2:30 p.m., to a call of a shooting in the 1000 block of Northumberland Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found evidence that a gun had been fired. They subsequently took a man carrying a gun into custody at Avenue Y and 33rd Street. They have yet to find any victims.
Police said the shooting happened right in front of a school, which they didn’t identify. Maps suggest Vincent Massey Community School is in that area.
The police release said the school was locked down as a precaution. They don’t believe the shooting had any connection to the school.
Traffic restrictions were in place at Morris Drive and Northumberland Avenue as police investigated.
