The Raiders have a history of being in front of the change, rather than an organization that sets down an anchor to try and stop it.
The history of Al Davis and the Raiders NFL history includes hiring the first minority head coach in Tom Flores. Then hiring the first black head coach in Art Shell. They also hired the first female CEO in NFL history when Al Davis hired Amy Trask.
And before this season, the Raiders Carl Nassib became the first gay player to come out during their career.
There was no way Jon Gruden could continue to lead this franchise, or any franchise, with the words that are now public. They were homophopic, racist and sexist and were all in direct opposition of the league trying to be more inclusive. Clearly, Gruden didn’t want the game to change. He didn’t want women refs and didn’t want Black players to use their platform.
Well, the game has changed and it’s left Gruden behind and by the sounds of it, we’re not done finding out who else will find themselves on the outside looking in.
