There is no doubt that the conversation around mental health has moved in the right direction over the years but there is still more work to be done.
As we talked about the news with Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price entering the NHL/NHLPA’s players assistance program, in came texts of support. But you still see those who say “Suck it up buttercup” or “Must be tough making all that money.”
Sure, Price makes over $10 million a year, but there is also a line that money can’t buy you happiness so no matter the pay cheque coming in, we should all be using Price as an example.
Here is a man who voluntarily checked himself into the program. He was able to recognize an issue and asked for help. Too many of us don’t ask for help, whether it’s with addiction or substance abuse or our own mental health.
Carey Price is a championship person and does so much for Montreal and Indigenous communities.
He was already someone to look up to. But here’s hoping he’s unintentionally helped more than just himself and maybe someone else asks for help before it’s too late.
