Right now NHL teams hit the ice in preseason and we’re analyzing wins and losses, because basically there is nothing else to do.
But there is nothing you can take out of pre-season unless the team on the other side actually has some decent players on the ice.
If the Oilers win 6-0 over the Seattle Kraken who put out their future AHL team or worse, there is nothing to glean from it, no matter how many points Connor McDavid puts up.
Sure, let’s enjoy having hockey back but nothing matters before the puck drops and the games matter and the rosters are set and it’s best on best.
Remember that time the Detroit Lions went 4-0 in the NFL preseason and then went 0-16 in the regular season? Yeah, that happened. I’m sure there were sports reporters in Detroit writing up glowing articles on the optimism of the season besides the fact their starters barely played at all in those four games.
There is nothing more over blown than pre-season anything.
