Claims are still rolling in from the hailstorm that hit Regina and other parts of southern Saskatchewan at the end of August.
SGI spokesperson Tyler McMurchy said at last count, there were more than 9,500 auto claims and 1,800 property claims.
More than 95 per cent of claims from the storm on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 are for hail damage.
“It’s a pretty massive storm event and it’s safe to say it’ll be well into the tens of millions of dollars,” said McMurchy.
McMurchy said SGI is working very hard to get the claims processed and the damage appraised.
“Our adjusting and appraisal staff have been working a lot of overtime. Staff from around the province and other areas of the company are chipping in to help out as well,” said McMurchy.
He thanked customers for their patience, adding this weekend alone, SGI expects to do estimates on 700 vehicles.
Many customers who’ve filed claims were booked into a holding schedule and are still waiting for an appointment.
Customers waiting for a damage estimate from SGI are likely looking at getting an appointment in late October or early November.
In many cases, vehicle owners can also get their damage estimate done at an SGI accredited repair shop.
“That may speed the process for you somewhat. Of course, the shops are all busy as well but there may be some that have the capacity to get you in a little sooner than you might being seen by somebody working for SGI,” said McMurchy.
