What is going on with the Canadian Football League and the doping control officers behind the scenes?
Never before have we heard of players getting fined or even suspended for their behaviour toward the people employed to get the samples.
Now, we have two suspensions in the first seven weeks of the CFL season. The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ A.C. Leonard has now apologized for behaviour he regrets, especially now that it has cost him a considerable amount of money.
B.C. Lions defensive back Garry Peters has now drawn the ire of the league for similar behaviour.
This seems weird. There has been no indication made public from the league that it’s cracking down or expressed to players that their previous behaviour was unacceptable.
I’m learning what is happening goes well beyond the ‘f-bombs’ when a player is frustrated they got randomly selected, so don’t feel too much sympathy for Leonard or Peters.
But hopefully they’ve now been made examples of and the players’ behaviour changes toward the people tasked to execute a policy that has been agreed to by both the league and the players.
Nobody deserves to be sworn at or worse when they’re just trying to do their job.
