Megan Gallagher’s family is marking the one-year anniversary of her disappearance with a walk to raise awareness about their daughter and other missing people in the province.
“This is a community issue,” said Brian Gallagher, Megan’s father. “Currently in Saskatchewan, the last report I have, over 133 people have been missing for more than six months.”
Gallagher — who was 31 at the time — went missing on Sept. 19, 2020. About four months later, Saskatoon police announced they would be entering into a homicide investigation regarding Gallagher’s missing person’s file.
Gallagher was last seen around 6 a.m. at a convenience store on Diefenbaker Drive in Saskatoon. She was wearing a black Cabella’s hoodie with a light blue shirt underneath and black pants.
She also has several tattoos, including the number 13 on her right hand and a half-sleeve tattoo of a large owl from her shoulder to her elbow on her right arm.
Her disappearance has impacted her family drastically.
“It’s something that’s on your mind every second of every minute of every day of every week of every month. It just doesn’t go away,” Brian said.
“It changed our lives in so many ways. When we go for a drive, we still look for people that might have the same gait. We turn our heads twice.”
Brian invited people to join the walk this weekend to honour Megan and the missing people in Saskatchewan who haven’t yet come home.
The walk, which coincides with Saskatchewan Missing Persons Week, will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Members of the public are invited to join Gallagher’s family as they walk from Joe Gallagher Field — named after Gallagher’s grandfather — to the River Landing Amphitheatre.
