On Friday night, we’re jumping into something new to Saskatchewan but likely to be a little more of a regular occurrence — proof of vaccination to do a recreational thing like attend a football game.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are out of the gate first and we’ll see how smoothly this goes. But credit to the Roughriders for not listening to their vocal minority and doing something that doesn’t come easy.
Between 20,000 and 30,000 fans all requiring two checkpoints to get into a stadium is a logistical nightmare, but the Riders are doing all they can to make it smooth. Gates will be open two hours before the game, so you can arrive early. They’re even providing pre-screening today and tomorrow afternoon to help.
And Friday won’t be perfect but please be patient. This will be new for you and the staff working the game.
Like at the airport, have your ticket, ID and passport ready — except the three hours after the checkpoint will be a lot more enjoyable than a cramped seat and terrible food, unless the Riders experience the same turbulence they received from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
