Former Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager and head coach Chris Jones is back in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts.
And the common question I see from fans is, “Why do people still hire this guy?”
Jones is a football nomad who burned the Stamps to go to Toronto, burned Edmonton to come to Saskatchewan, burned Saskatchewan to go to the NFL and now leaves his ‘dream job’ at his alma mater in Tennessee to go to Toronto.
So why would anyone hire a guy who will drop you like a dirty shirt for a better opportunity? He wins, and in the coaching world, every coach would do the same thing if they could. Jones never left a team for an equal or worse situation or salary.
But his ties run deep in Toronto. Assistant GM John Murphy was Jones’ assistant in Saskatchewan and four coaches in Toronto were also on his staff in Saskatchewan. They know better than anyone how Jones operates. They also know the results.
Sure, Jones might leave for a better opportunity at any time but when you pay Chris Jones, he’ll give you all he’s got because he knows that next opportunity will only come if he’s successful.
