The Saskatoon Police Service’s Drug Unit took more than six kilograms of methamphetamine off the streets during a recent drug bust.
After a two-month investigation, the drug unit executed search warrants on Sept. 2 at a home in the 300 block of Birch Crescent and two apartments on Fifth Avenue North (one in the 700 block and the other in the 200 block).
In total, officers found 6,158.3 grams of methamphetamine, 339.8 grams of powdered cocaine, 5.2 grams of psilocybin, 0.3 grams of fentanyl, more than $67,000 in cash and other items like cellphones, scales and packaging materials.
A 42-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested after the raids.
Three other recent drug busts seized 89.6 grams of cocaine, 7.79 grams of fentanyl, 4.1 grams of crack cocaine, a prohibited .22-calibre Smith & Wesson semi-automatic rifle, a Winchester 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, two Airsoft handguns and $7,400 cash.
“The message must be clear (that) organizations responsible for the importation, manufacture and distribution of illicit drugs in Saskatoon are responsible for an overwhelming proportion of harm within our community. The drug trade is intrinsically linked to guns, violence and victimization,” Criminal Investigations Supt. Patrick Nogier said in a media release.
“The Saskatoon Police Service will continue to focus on organizations benefiting from illegal activities as they pertain to the drug trade in Saskatoon.”
