The man at the centre of a manhunt in Saskatchewan on the weekend has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Shawn Moostoos, 33, was the subject of a large-scale emergency alert issued by the RCMP on Sunday night after a shooting on the James Smith Cree Nation. The First Nation is located 58 kilometres east of Prince Albert.
According to police, the shooting happened Sunday at about 7:20 p.m. In an update released Monday, the RCMP said a 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from the James Smith Cree Nation community were killed and a 44-year-old man was injured.
The injured man was taken to hospital, but is expected to survive. All three victims and the suspect knew each other.
The names of the victims weren’t released by police.
In the wake of the alert, Moostoos was found Monday afternoon at a Melfort home and arrested without incident.
Moostoos, who’s also charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, is in custody and is to make his first court appearance Wednesday in Nipawin.
