The man allegedly responsible for the shooting which killed two and injured one other person Sunday on James Smith Cree Nation was found at a Melfort home.
Saskatchewan RCMP said the man was arrested without incident around 4 p.m. Monday.
Other suspects are not being investigated at this time in connection with the shooting, police said in a Monday evening release. The investigation, however, is ongoing and updates will be provided as available.
Emergency alert sparks manhunt Sunday
The Mounties issued a large-scale emergency alert Sunday evening after the incident. The James Smith Cree Nation community is located 58 kilometres east of Prince Albert.
In a news release early Monday morning, police said 33-year-old Shawn Moostoos is the suspect.
According to police, the shooting happened at about 7:19 p.m. Sunday. In an update released just before 11 a.m. Monday, RCMP said a 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from the James Smith Cree Nation community were killed. Families have been notified of the deaths, and the names will not be released at this time.
In the late-morning update, police said they don’t have an update on the 44-year-old man who was injured in the incident. He was transported to hospital with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive. All three victims and the suspect knew each other.
