A family dispute led to a dog being killed and a teen being arrested in College Park Sunday night.
According to Saskatoon Police, just before 11 p.m., patrol officers responded to a complaint of the dispute. The information included a young man at the home, threatening others with a knife.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the 17-year-old through a window but weren’t able to get into the home. The door was locked with three large dogs inside.
Two potential victims were found in the same room as the suspect. Officers were able to grab the suspect through the window before the teen tried to get away from the officers.
Police members were worried the teen would free himself and hurt the people in the room, so more officers made their way into the home through the locked door.
One of the large dogs then charged at one of the officers, with another officer firing his weapon at the dog. It retreated into the room with the suspect.
When officers got into the room, they deployed a taser at the dog, subduing it and getting the two suspects out of the room.
The dog charged at the officers a second time when police tried to detain the suspect. The officer who had first fired their weapon at the dog again shot and killed the animal.
The 17-year-old boy was arrested on charges of uttering threats.
No one in the home or any officers were hurt in the incident, but the use of the firearm and taser are being reviewed, as per Saskatoon Police policy.
