There will be a lot of shots taken in the SJHL this season.
The league has announced COVID-19 vaccinations will be mandatory for all players, coaches, scouts, athletic therapists, trainers, equipment managers, on-ice officials, timekeepers and anyone else who interacts directly with players.
First shots must be delivered by Sept. 10, with second doses required by Oct. 15.
“These dates will allow ample time for teams to make sure they can help with arrangements for any player or staff who haven’t yet received their COVID vaccine,” the league said in a media release. “This will also allow time to come up with any modified work for staff or players should that be deemed necessary.”
Those who aren’t fully vaccinated will have to wear a mask when they’re around other players, coaches or staff involved in off-ice team activities.
The league’s policy could mean issues for teams visiting the Flin Flon Bombers.
According to the SJHL, all players, coaches and staff won’t be able to travel into Manitoba until they’re fully vaccinated. The Bombers are the SJHL’s only Manitoba-based team.
