We’re about to find out how good of a football player Jacob Ruby really is.
The starting offensive lineman for the Edmonton Elks is now on the unemployment line after misleading the Elks about his vaccination status.
He flat out lied to them, according to a report from TSN’s Dave Naylor.
So he’s out.
The Elks clearly feel, as rumblings of locker room discord become public, that it’s best for the team Ruby is no longer with them after a COVID-19 outbreak postponed their game and may in fact cost them a paycheque.
So is Ruby on the do-not-touch list across the league? Has he ruined his reputation? Well, in pro sports the uber-talented always seem to find jobs despite character issues whereas character issues will seem to end careers if the talent is easy to ignore.
In a season of COVID, it’ll be hard for teams to trust a player who manipulated his former team.
However, starting Canadian offensive line depth is a hot commodity in the CFL when there are teams that clearly lack it. So I wouldn’t end Ruby’s season just yet.
