Saskatoon’s Sutherland neighbourhood will see some new construction while a new major transmission line is installed.
SaskPower said the powerline will be built between the new Preston Crossing Substation and the W.J. Bunn Substation on Attridge Drive, near the entrance to Forestry Farm.
The line will cross Circle Drive and run along Attridge, using an existing right-of-way.
Kory Hayko, SaskPower vice president of transmission and industrial services, said the line will help serve the University of Saskatchewan while preparing SaskPower to support planned future development of USask lands.
One section of the line will use structures that hold two power lines, to allow both SaskPower and Saskatoon Light and Power — who provides service to the Sutherland and Silverspring neighbourhoods — to use the corridor.
The project cost is around $18 million.
Installation of foundations for the new transmission line structures will begin this week. Commuters, residents and businesses are being told they may notice dust, noise and traffic delays or restrictions in the flow of traffic as a result.
Work zones will vary by week and the latest impacts on traffic will be posted to the City of Saskatoon’s website.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2022.
