A 25-year-old Saskatoon man didn’t knock before driving through a family’s front door around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The crash, which Saskatoon police have determined was due to impaired driving, involved a vehicle that caused substantial damage to a home on Latrace Road.

“We were sleeping and heard the loudest crash in the world,” recalled Holly Parent, while retriving her belongings before the home was boarded up.
“We woke up to complete devastation in the house. All the cement in the front is gone. There’s a big hole in the basement. (The truck) bounced so hard even the ceiling got wrecked.”
The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle that had hit a home and was possibly on fire. Three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief were dispatched, but no fire was found upon arrival.
Damage was found done to the home’s staircase, which led to the second level.
The home was secured to allow the family to retrieve their personal belongings before investigators and insurance adjusters begin assessing the damage.
Until then, the family of three is in limbo.
“It’s unsafe right now, and unliveable. They might condemn it, I dunno,” said Parent.
There were no injuries to the owners of the home or vehicle due to the collision.
The man who drove into the home was arrested on scene and charged with two impaired driving-related offences and one charge related to dangerous driving.
It was the second time the home had an unwanted visitor. Over two years, ago a city transit bus hit a patch of ice and slid into the front step causing minor damage.
“Compared to this, that was tiny.”
