Some extreme heat is in store for parts of southern Saskatchewan this week.
Environment Canada put out heat warnings for the Assiniboia, Carlyle, Estevan and Maple Creek regions early Monday morning.
“Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 30’s Monday with temperatures forecasted to be a couple of degrees warmer on Tuesday,” Environment Canada wrote in a release. “Respite from the heat is unlikely Monday night as overnight lows are forecast to remain in the mid to high teens.”
However, it’s expected to cool down a bit as the week goes on.
“A weak cold front will pass through the region early Wednesday morning, bringing daytime highs back down to the high 20’s or to the 30 degree mark by Wednesday afternoon.”
Extreme heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
People are reminded to check up on older family members or other people who might be more easily susceptible to the heat.
As of Monday morning, there is also an air quality statement in place for the Hudson Bay region as 157 wildfires rage on throughout the province — nine less compared to Sunday’s totals.
