Remember November?
In a weekend where Saskatchewan saw active cases jump slightly, we’re trending on our way to seeing November levels.
Saskatchewan gained 350 new cases of COVID on Saturday and Sunday, with just 289 recoveries. That has the active case count at 1,430. Last Monday, there were 1,537 active cases in the province.
Once Saskatchewan hits anything lower than 1,264 in active cases — a level we saw on March 17 — we will be back to totals last experienced in early November.
The province’s seven-day average is now at 137, dropping slightly from 142 a week earlier.
Hospitalizations also decreased this week, with 109 reported Sunday. There were 133 last Monday, resulting in a drop of 24 overall — the lowest total in the hospital since Nov. 28. This also shrunk our ICU intake from 28 last Monday to 25 to close out the month of May.
When it comes to vaccinations, Step One on the Re-Opening Roadmap began Sunday. This alters multiple public health orders, which you can read more about here.
To date, 77 per cent of Saskatchewan residents over the age of 40 have received their first dose of a COVID vaccine, including 71 per cent of those 30 and up. Sixty-six per cent of those over 18 have their first dose.
Second doses are now open for those 70 and up, except for those who received AstraZeneca as a first dose. Those 85 and over currently are the only ones eligible for second doses of that vaccine.
In total, 23,984 vaccinations were dished out to Saskatchewanians over the weekend, with Sunday’s figures to come Monday afternoon. The nearly 24,000 inoculations are just under the 25,805 from Saturday and Sunday on the May long weekend.
Second doses have also jumped from 58,180 last week to 77,767 as of Sunday.
