Prince Albert police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man and have confirmed a serving member of the Prince Albert RCMP is in custody in connection to the incident.
In the early evening on Tuesday, police were called to a wooded area within the city for a report of a deceased man.
The death is being investigated as a murder and the arrested RCMP officer was not on duty at the time of the incident.
The Prince Albert Police Service has requested the appointment of an independent observer to oversee this investigation as per Section 91 of The Police Act 1990, Saskatchewan.
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Prince Albert Police Service is leading the investigation. Police have also confirmed the officer and the male victim knew each other, but have not released any names.
A family member, however, confirmed to paNOW the name of the deceased as Braden Herman.
Brett Herman said he was “torn apart” when he heard the news about his younger brother. He also said Braden grew up in La Loche but was more recently living in Prince Albert and went to school at Carlton Comprehensive and Ecole St. Mary.
Brett Herman also said his brother loved playing basketball and hanging out with friends.
