Thick smoke, illuminated by the downtown lights, filled the Saskatoon sky early Monday morning.
A blaze ripped through a structure on the 100 block of Avenue B South, which was identified as Rosaly’s Pan-African Restaurant by a spokesperson with the Saskatoon Fire Department. The owner of Rosaly’s contacted 650 CKOM to say the company moved from the location in 2019, and that she and her family are OK.
According to a release by Saskatoon police, crews were dispatched to the restaurant at 1:41 a.m.

At 2:01 a.m., the roof on the building and its north wall collapsed, with crews focusing on suppressing the large fire.
Fire relief crews were sent to the scene throughout the incident to provide rest for firefighters involved in the marathon battle.
SaskEnergy and Saskatoon Light and Power attended the scene to shut off utilities in the structure. That was after a gas line ruptured in the early morning hours, causing more of a battle for responders.
At 6:24 a.m., a City of Saskatoon excavator took down the rest of the unstable structure to safely extinguish the rest of the fire.

No one was hurt in the blaze. Fire crews started to clean up at the scene around 10 a.m.
Following initial investigations Monday, the fire was deemed as suspicious in nature. The damage is estimated at $900,000.
It was not indicated if any neighbouring businesses were impacted by Monday morning’s fire.
One business that told 650 CKOM it wasn’t affected by the blaze was Atmosphere Interior Design. That business will remain open Monday, with the remaining businesses in the facility closed Mondays.
Outtabounds sent its staff home for the day and closed to give fire investigators an opportunity to take a look at the incident.
Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story identified the business as ‘Rosaly’s Pan-African Restaurant.’ The owner reached out to 650 CKOM to say that they had moved out of the location in 2019.
