The Saskatchewan Roughriders added some international flavour to their roster Thursday.
The CFL team announced the signings of two global players in receiver Sebastien Sagne and kicker Wihan van der Riet.
The Roughriders selected Sagne in the fourth round (32nd overall) of the 2021 global draft.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Finn began his football career with the Helsinki Wolverines and, in 2014, recorded 73 catches for 1,063 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He then spent four seasons in Germany, with stops in Dresden and Frankfurt. Over the 2016 and ’17 seasons in Dresden, Sagne caught 118 passes for 2,189 yards and 33 touchdowns.
Van der Riet, a product of South Africa, signed with the Roughriders as a free agent. The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder has had tryouts with teams in the NFL and CFL, including one with the B.C. Lions in 2019.
In his home country, the 31-year-old ran a kicking academy to help coach young rugby players and kickers who hoped to find jobs in the CFL and NFL.
