Saskatchewan RCMP officers were quick to write a number of speeding tickets after a couple of recent traffic stops.
In a media release Thursday, the Mounties said one incident happened April 8 on Highway 16 west of Colonsay.
An RCMP officer pulled over a vehicle travelling at more than 160 kilometres per hour in a zone with a posted speed limit of 110 km/h.
“Once officers made contact with the driver, the driver indicated he had no idea why he was being pulled over,” the RCMP release said. “Officers learned that the driver had recently changed the display inside of his vehicle so the speedometer was displaying ‘miles per hour’ rather than ‘kilometres per hour.’
“The driver said he was checking the gas mileage of the vehicle and hadn’t realized he was operating in such excess of the posted speed limit.”
After changing the display back to kilometres per hour, the driver was given a ticket for $910.
Then, last Saturday, officers from the Maple Creek detachment saw three supercars — a Lamborghini, a Ferrari and an Aston Martin — travelling at more than 180 km/h in a 110 zone on Highway 21 south of Maple Creek.
The RCMP said officers “caught up to the trio,” and issued a total of $3,600.00 in fines. All three vehicles also were impounded.
“Officers learned that one of the drivers had just taken his vehicle out of winter storage and had failed to properly register his vehicle,” the Mounties added.
