Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon is moving to online learning, effective Friday.
The Saskatoon Public School Division made the move after consulting with the SHA.
According to a news release, since Sunday, three people at the school have tested positive for COVID-19; two of whom also tested positive for variants of concern.
Spokesperson for the school division Veronica Baker says four classes are now in isolation and all parents and affected students have been notified.
Baker says since the start of the school year, there have been 302 positive cases of COVID-19 at 56 locations in the division – 55 schools and the board office.
In-person learning is scheduled to resume on May 10.
Teachers Federation calls for switch to online learning
Following the decision by Nutana Collegiate, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) renewed a call for Saskatoon and area schools to make the switch to online classes effective on Monday.
“The situation in Saskatoon is perilous. We urge Saskatoon Public, Saskatoon Catholic and Prairie Spirit school divisions to take action now,”said STF PresidentPatrick Maze in a release.
“Schools are a source of transmissionand there are numerous outbreaks in Saskatoon and area schools. We don’t have to wait for more schools to be impacted. A move to remote learning is one measure we can take to help protect people’s lives.”
According to data from the province, Saskatoon has 543 cases of variants of concern. Regina had 434 when its school divisions announced a move to remote learning.
