Regina continues to be a hot-spot for cases as the COVID variants spread across the province.
Saskatchewan recorded 280 new cases on Saturday, the largest total in new cases cases since Jan. 29th, when the province had 328 cases.
The new cases are in the Saskatoon (51), Regina (127), southeast (24), south-central (20), central-east (10), north-central (three), northwest (18), northeast (11), far northeast (one) and far northwest (six) zones. Two new cases are also pending a location.
The active case total sits at 2,143.
The Ministry of Health also reported that 275 new variant cases have been identified in the province.
So far, there have been 2,226 cases involving a variant identified in the province in the far northeast (two) northwest (one), north-central (16), Saskatoon (117), central-west (12), central-east (32), Regina (1,578), southwest (seven), south-central (173) and southeast (157 ) zones. There is also 131 variant cases where the location is under investigation.
The Regina zone accounts for roughly 71 per cent of all confirmed variant cases in the province.
Hospitals around the province continue to see a large amount of people with COVID.
There are 189 people in hospital including 147 receiving inpatient care in the far northeast (one), northwest (nine), north-central (two), Saskatoon (41), central-east (12), Regina (72), south-central (one), southeast (nine).
The other 42 people are in intensive care in the north-central (two), Saskatoon (nine), Central East (two), Regina (26) and South Central (three).
There are no new deaths to report today. The ministry incorrectly reported the total number of deaths yesterday as 437. The number stands at 436.
There were 3,336 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on April 2, 2021. To date, 677,547 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan.
The new cases continue to outpace the recoveries, as there were 190 new recoveries reported on Saturday.
Vaccination update
More vaccines were administered in the province as 5,504 doses were given throughout Saskatchewan, raising the total doses so far to 214,246.
The shots were given in the far northwest (11), northwest (283), Saskatoon (1,854), central-east (1,035), Regina (1,318), south-central (462), southwest (383) and southeast(158) zones.
One fifth of Saskatchewan residents in their 80s have now received their second dose of vaccine and are fully vaccinated.
