Prince Albert police search for inmate mistakenly released from custody

Prince Albert police are asking for the public’s help in locating 31-year-old Blair Cody McKenzie.

Police advise he should not be approached.

After a court appearance on Friday, McKenzie was mistakenly released from custody at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre before completion of his court-ordered sentence. Police were notified of the error Monday evening.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Corrections, the mistaken release was the result of an administrative error in communicating information from the Provincial Court Office in Prince Albert to the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.

“We are reviewing the circumstances of this incident to prevent similar occurrences from happening in the future,” the statement said.

The ministry confirmed McKenzie’s original release date was May 25. He had been sentenced to four months in custody and nine months of probation on weapons and assault charges.

McKenzie is described as being 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his left arm of a cross and the word “Mom”; a tattoo with the word “McKenzie” on his right arm; and a tattoo on his left chest with the words “One Love.”
