An early-morning house fire in the Mayfair neighbourhood turned tragic for six animals.
The blaze, located at a home on the 1200 block of Avenue D North across from FreshCo, was called in by the person living there just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
The caller said that several pets were still in the home after they escaped, with dispatch directing the caller not to re-enter the home.
Crews fought the fire through the front window, while another team went in to look for occupants, pets and to attack the fire.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, but Saskatoon Fire did provide additional details in an update around 10:30 a.m.
Four dogs and two parrots were killed in fire. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Damages are estimated at around $100,000.
