A man wanted in connection with Saskatoon’s ninth murder of 2020 was arrested recently while trying to unlawfully cross the border into the United States.
In a media release Friday, the Saskatoon Police Service said Afrah Ali — who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant — was arrested by the United States Border Patrol last Saturday.
The Saskatoon Police Service’s Major Crime Section is now working with authorities to get Ali returned to Saskatoon.
On Aug. 25, police issued a media release saying Ali was facing a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Logan Nayneecassum at a Saskatoon restaurant on Aug. 21. Police said they couldn’t find Ali and had put out a warrant for his arrest.
According to police, as people began to leave the restaurant for the evening, a dispute between numerous patrons resulted in a fight during which the 30-year-old Nayneecassum was shot.
