Pop star Halsey reaches out to Swift Current family after viral TikTok video

A young girl from Swift Current has caught the eye of a U.S. pop star, among many others.

In just one day, a TikTok video of seven-year-old Bella Thomson drawing has racked up more than 10 million views. Her mom, Kyla, posted the video Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, Thomson woke up to a private message from Halsey on Instagram. The singer said she couldn’t stop watching Bella’s videos and wanted to send her a care package.

“I told her, ‘OK! That will be awesome. Bella loves to get mail. Thank you, this is awesome!’ ” Kyla said Thursday.

Bella has struggled with health issues all her life. She was born with severe combined immunodeficiency, Hirschsprung disease and cartilage-hair hypoplasia. She had a bone marrow transplant at just one year old and she is currently awaiting a bowel transplant.

Her mom has been posting updates on social media since Bella was a year old and says the goal has always been to help others who might be going through the same thing.

“I just want to help other moms and dads in hospital,” Kyla said. “And I know Bella is a happy little soul and if she can bring a smile to another kid’s face that’s going through the same thing, that’s all we want to do with this.”

There will be more videos to follow as Bella and her family spend time at home waiting for the call for her next big surgery.

“We are enjoying every single minute of every day because that phone call for the bowel transplant could come any day and that’s when we would have to move to Toronto and have that happen,” Kyla said.
