In-person classes at Saskatoon’s high schools and at the University of Saskatchewan have been cancelled Monday due to the snowstorm that has battered the city.
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) said the decision was made after discussions with the City of Saskatoon and emergency services.
“Cancelling in-person classes helps ensure the safety of students and staff members, while supporting the city’s efforts to clear streets and facilitate the municipal election, for which several of our schools are polling stations,” the division said on its website.
Both the GSCS and Saskatoon Public Schools said teachers would be reaching out to students to provide direction and assignments for at-home learning.
Elementary schools in the city already had a professional development day scheduled for Monday.
The divisions said details about Tuesday’s classes would be provided to families later Monday.
The U of S made the announcement later Sunday that access to its campus will be restricted to students, faculty and staff to allow for “snow removal services and other key activities necessary to maintain critical infrastructure essential to university operations.”
All in-person classes, labs and clinics are cancelled Monday. That also covers nursing students in Prince Albert and Regina.
