The Access Saskatchewan Women’s Curling Qualifying League has been cancelled following a COVID-19 exposure at Regina’s Highland Curling Club.
According to a late Saturday press release by CurlSask, the risk of transmission remains low.
“By taking the swift actions to conclude league play, organizers and athletes are doing their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” the CurlSask release reads.
The Highland Curling Club was notified of the exposure Saturday night. The individual visited the curling club last Sunday from 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m., according to a Saskatchewan Health Authority advisory released Sunday.
“The Highland Curling Club has implemented numerous safety protocols and stringent cleaning practices,” the release reads, before reiterating that the practices were followed during the league play.
The Highland Curling Club is now closed for cleaning, CurlSask told 650 CKOM Sunday.
The curling club posted a release to its website on the exposure, as well.
“We have informed everyone who was in the rink at the same as that individual and have asked them to self-monitor and to contact SHA if they feel they are developing symptoms,” the statement from President Kevin Fetsch and general manager AJ Scott reads.
“We are proud and confident in the effectiveness and execution of the shutdown of the event this weekend. And with that comes the confidence to reopen effective Tuesday October 13th for business as usual.”
