The fifth edition of the Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officer Memorial kicked off Friday morning.
The Ride to Remember is a provincial bike ride to honour fallen peace and police officers.
This year’s ride looks different from previous years due to COVID-19.
In past years, participants would cycle from Saskatoon to Regina, completing their ride at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building for the Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officer Memorial ceremonies.
This year, there are two separate events.
In Saskatoon, cyclists met at Saskatoon police headquarters on Friday and rode to Pike Lake Provincial Park. The round trip is about 100 kilometres.
In Regina, riders are to depart from Regina police headquarters Sunday at 10 a.m., and head for the Craven area before returning to the Legislature. That trip also is about 100 kilometres long.
After the riders’ arrival at the legislative building, a scaled-down version of the memorial service is to take place. It’s closed to the public but will be streamed online.
There are 63 names on the Saskatchewan Police Memorial Honour Roll.
