Saskatoon police say they are investigating the city’s 11th murder of the year after human remains were found in a home in the Riversdale neighbourhood.
In a release, police say detectives with the Missing Person Unit and Major Crimes received information that an injured or deceased person may be at an address in the 400 block of Avenue G South.
At about 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the direction of investigators, members of Patrol, the Guns and Gangs Unit and Forensic investigators went to the home on Avenue G where they found the human remains inside.
The Major Crime Section has deemed this a homicide investigation.
On Aug. 22, a fire deemed incendiary occurred at the home, Saskatoon Fire Department and Saskatoon police confirmed to 650 CKOM Wednesday afternoon.
During its investigation, the fire department found a live cat in the basement of the home. There were no other occupants in the structure and no injuries occurred as a result of the incident, according to Saskatoon fire’s original release on Aug. 22.
The Major Crime and Forensic Identification sections along with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are continuing to investigate and are working to identify the remains.
An autopsy has been ordered and is scheduled for Friday.
