A Saskatoon Police Service officer used a Taser on a 25-year-old man Thursday after the man tried to grab the officer during an incident on Circle Drive.
In a media release, police say at about 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call about a man who had grabbed a woman and was putting her into a vehicle on 33rd Street near Circle.
“The man then laid down on Circle Drive before getting up and approaching a responding officer in a patrol vehicle,” the release said. “The suspect opened the door of the patrol vehicle and attempted to grab the officer.”
At that point, the officer used a Taser on the man, who then was taken into custody. He was taken to hospital for treatment relating to what police called his “erratic behaviour.” It’s believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant.
Police say he and the woman are known to each other. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and assault.
