Saskatoon police have identified the vehicles involved in a weekend hit-and-run that prompted a social media campaign to find the people responsible.
In a statement on the Saskatoon Police Service Facebook page, police thanked everyone who offered a tip to help the investigation.
“Due to recent media attention, we have received numerous tips and information regarding a vehicle accident with injuries that took place on Kerr Road on August 22, 2020,” the statement read. “The file remains under investigation by the collision analyst unit and all parties and vehicles involved have been identified.”
“We’d like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.”
Greg Semchuk was leaving a party last Saturday night when he walked across the street to get to his car on Kerr Road in the Arbor Creek neighbourhood.
He was hit by a vehicle that apparently drove away. A nearby neighbour called 911 after seeing Semchuk lying on the street unconscious.
His mother, Jackie Tennant, has been taking care of Semchuk since then. She said the image of her son left lying there bloodied is embedded in her mind.
“It leaves you feeling kind of hollow inside when you see somebody you love all alone on the road,” she said. “It’s hard to take.”
Tennant has had one question since seeing the photograph.
“I just thought why would somebody leave him like he was nothing? Like he was a piece of cardboard, (or) trash,” she said.
Semchuk suffered a skull fracture, brain damage, extensive damage to one of his feet and ankles, in addition to plenty of cuts, bruises and road rash.
He can’t remember the crash or anything that happened that night.
“My biggest concern is that by mid-afternoon, he’s not really with it,” Tennant said of her son’s memory loss.
“He thinks he has to go to work and he says to me, ‘Mom, find my steel-toe boots and make me some sandwiches — I got to make some money.'”
Semchuk was sent home from hospital on Wednesday and will have to return in a few weeks for reconstructive surgery on his foot once the swelling subsides.
Semchuk’s family began their own social media campaign to find whoever is responsible.
“I’d really like to think that someone’s out there who’s really, really guilty, or saddened or ashamed that they drove away for whatever reason,” Tennant said.
Please share. Hit and run on Kerr Road last night. Who leaves someone lying on the road? Please contact the Saskatoon City Police if you know or hear anything. Thank you.

As of Friday, a post on Facebook about the crash had been shared more than 400 times.
“That is truly amazing,” Tennant said of the outpouring of support. “All the people that are sitting there praying for him or saying, ‘Get well, Greg.'”
For now, Tennant’s main focus is on her son’s injuries and providing him with everything he needs to recover.
“It’s going to be good,” she said. I mean, my son had an angel watching over him that night, so I guess what more could I ask for?”
