The Global Transportation Hub (GTH) in Regina had no land sales last year, a fact that has the provincial opposition calling for an economic inquiry.
A new report shows the project is now $46 million in debt after running a deficit of over $2 million.
“These numbers should shock anyone concerned about the province’s balance sheet, which is why we’re calling for the Standing Committee on the Economy to convene and dive deeper,” NDP GTH Critic Cathy Sproule said.
She also criticized the GTH for paying a private company $1.4 million to manage a budgeted $3.8 million in land sales, despite none of those sales being made.
NDP Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon agrees.
“What we see in the GTH annual report is a government that won’t come clean about the mess they made, and that has left Saskatchewan people on the hook for the mounting debt,” he said.
